A North Liberty man was arrested after his autistic son was found wandering outside.
North Liberty Police were dispatched to the area of Devmont Court and Delaney Court the morning of August 8th for a report of a 7 year old nonverbal autistic child wandering into the public street unsupervised.
The police report this is the 9th time officers have dealt with the child in the same circumstances.
In this case, the father, identified as 47-year-old Raymond Mazakala of Alexander Way, was the caretaker. He allegedly told officers that he fell asleep and the child was able to escape the residence and apartment building. Mazakala added that he attempts to stop the child from leaving by blocking the door with furniture, but reportedly admitted that the child just moves it out of the way.
When contacted, Mazakala allegedly was unaware that the child was missing.
A warrant for Mazakala’s arrest was issued August 11th; he was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and charged with Child Endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted
