The Johnson County Sheriff’s office has released an update on its investigation into the deaths of a Borlaug Elementary School student and teacher at Lake Macbride earlier this week.
First responders were called to a water rescue on the lake at 12:10 Tuesday afternoon, specifically to an area near the Lake Macbride dam with Coralville Lake. 24-year-old Hannah Jorgensen of Tiffin was pulled from Coralville Lake at 12:43 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. Ten-year-old Ahmed Osman was pulled from the water on Wednesday afternoon.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Friday afternoon indicating it is continuing to conduct interviews and gather information as part of its investigation. It added that the office is committed to providing the most comprehensive support and service to the two families, as well as the Johnson County community at large.
The news release says the sheriff’s office will share additional information as it becomes appropriate to do so, and they respectfully ask the media and the public to honor the privacy of the families as they grieve.
