Area transient accused of assaulting man

An area transient was arrested after allegedly pushing a victim to the ground and injuring him.

The incident occurred Wednesday on the 100 block of East College Street. According to police, just before 10pm, they responded to a report of a fight in the area. The victim reported that 45-year-old Charles Smith walked up to him and pushed him to the ground, injuring his hand.

Surveillance video from the scene showed Smith walking up to the victim and shoving him.

Smith reportedly showed signs of intoxication, including the odor of ingested alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He refused a PBT.

Smith was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
