Storm Lake residents will have a chance to combine exercise with local history later this month.
Buena Vista County Public Health and the Buena Vista County Historical Society are partnering to host the first‑ever Storm Lake History Walk at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, starting and ending at the Historical Society Museum at 214. W. Fifth Street in Storm Lake.
The free, one‑mile walk will highlight historic sites around downtown and Lake Avenue, including Santa’s Castle, the Metcalf House, the former Post Office and several classic homes. Participants will also get rare access to the Prairie Log House and Elk Center One-Room Schoolhouse, which are typically closed to the public and maintained in authentic period style.
Organizers say the event offers both a look at Storm Lake’s past and a chance to promote healthy activity. Those unable to attend can pick up a map at the museum for a self‑guided tour at any time.
