A Libertarian candidate for US Congress has ended his candidacy due to an unspecified medical emergency.

Marco Battaglia, who was recently ruled ineligible to be on the November ballot due to having a different legal name, made the announcement Monday.

Party Chair Stephanie Berlin issued a statement saying that out of respect for Battaglia’s parivacy, no additional details will be released. Their focus will be on supporting him and his family while ensuring that they continue to provide voters with Libertarian choices on the November ballot.

Last week, a Polk County judge ruled that Libertarian Rick Stewart is eligible to be on the ballot in the northeast 2nd congressional race, running against Democrat Lindsay James and Republican Joe Mitchell.
