A Cedar Rapids man was arrested on multiple charges after an accident Thursday afternoon on northbound I380.
A Johnson County deputy came upon a crash at 5:20pm that had recently occurred at approximately the 8 mile marker on the interstate. 50-year-old Robert Lahue of Crestwood Drive NW was reportedly observed walking away from the crash area and had to be ordered to stop. He allegedly failed to provide information to the other driver or report the crash prior to walking away.
When asked about the accident, Lahue stated that the drive shaft on his 1988 Dodge Ram broke. He said he removed the drive shaft from under the vehicle, which then began to roll downhill on its own. It crossed two lanes of traffic and collided with a northbound semi.
A check of Lahue’s driving record showed his status as barred since March of 2024.
He was charged with driving while barred, and cited for leaving the scene of an accident, parking without setting a parking brake, and failure to provide proof of insurance. If convicted on the driving while barred charge, Lahue could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
