The City of North Liberty has issued a statement regarding recent complaints against the city’s official refuse collection company.

The city posted to its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that LRS…the City of North Liberty’s trash and recycling contractor…informed city officials of delays in collecting trash and recycling on Wednesday due to legal limits on drivers’ hours. The impacted areas include trash service south of Penn Street and east of Dubuque Street and recycling service in the city’s northeast quadrant.

The post goes on to explain city officials are aware of recent complaints about LRS, and they are working with the company to improve collection service. It also notes that switching to another company or creating a city-run refuse and recycling service are not currently viable options. A link to the full post can be found here.

Last week, a post on the official City of Riverside Facebook page indicated that city was terminating its contract with LRS after several reports of late or missed garbage and recycling pickups over the past several months.

Other cities and organizations have reported recent issues with LRS, including Tiffin, Solon, West Branch, Shueyville, and an Iowa City Homeowners Association.

LRS formerly operated as Johnson County Refuse.
