The man accused of opening fire on a crowd of people on the Iowa City Ped Mall back in April has been linked to a series of burglaries at Hawk Ridge Apartments earlier in the year.
17-year-old Damarian Jones has been charged with third-degree burglary in regards to a series of car break-ins at the complex on January 16th. According to court records, Jones and four others were in the underground garage at approximately 4:37am, entering multiple vehicles. One had an Xbox game system that was allegedly stolen and later sold to Gamestop in Cedar Rapids.
Surveillance video reportedly shows Jones and the others committing the acts.
If convicted on the charge, Jones could be sentenced to up to two years in prison. He already faces up to 170 years if convicted on five counts of attempted murder, three counts of willful injury causing serious injury, two counts of willful injury causing bodily injury, and going armed with intent. He has an arraignment hearing scheduled for June 19th, a reverse waiver hearing scheduled for July 10th and a hearing on a request or transfer of jurisdiction on July 22nd.
