On Monday, the Jefferson County Supervisors met with Brian Courtney, ICAP’s Law Enforcement Risk Control Specialist.
Courtney recommends that the county law center store its jail video surveillance for a longer period of time, to minimize the risk of inmates making false claims against law enforcement and corrections personnel. Courtney explained that Inmates often wait two years for the statute of limitations to end to make these claims. The county currently holds its surveillance footage for 14 days.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Bart Richmond, the system ICAP recommends would potentially cost the county between $200,000 and $500,000 to hold surveillance footage up to the statute of limitations.
