Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced that over 1.3 million residents cast ballots for this year’s midterm elections.
The turnout rate of 63% was the highest in 30 years.
Pate said 70 percent of the ballots were cast early, whether in person or via mail.
The Secretary of State’s office will release a turnout breakdown by party in the coming days. Pate said he expects turnout to grow in coming elections.
