An Anita Iowa man was arrested early Monday morning after an incident at a northside Iowa City convenience store.
According to police, 28-year-old Jerry Carr was at the Casey’s on North Dubuque Street at approximately 2:45am when he was causing issues at the store. A staff member trying to get him to leave was allegedly punched by Carr, who also threatened to shoot staff members.
Officers arrived on scene and found Carr drinking in the parking lot. Staff advised that he was drunk, and he was reportedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes and the odor of ingested alcohol.
Officers attempted to arrest Carr, but he allegedly pulled away and punched an officer in the chest. Once in handcuffs, he reportedly spit at officers multiple times. One officer suffered bruising to his arm, while another fell backwards and hit his head on the concrete.
Carr faces multiple charges, including assault causing bodily injury, 1st degree harassment, public intoxication, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations and two counts of interference with official acts causing bodily injury. If convicted on all charges, he could be sentenced to over 9 years in prison.
