A Florida man wanted for robbery has been arrested after a high-speed police chase on Interstate 380.

The Iowa State Patrol reports a northbound 2008 Chrysler 300 was pulled over for speeding near the Iowa River Bridge just before 4:45 Saturday afternoon. The vehicle allegedly took off from the traffic stop and led the trooper on a chase reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour while passing other vehicles on the shoulder. The car exited at 120th Street, but went through the stop sign at the top of the exit and crashed into a ditch near Shueyville.

The driver, 50-year-old Jason Jones of Punta Gorda, Florida, allegedly claimed he knew it was stupid to flee, and admitted that he didn’t have a license. The plates on the vehicle were not registered, and the car had the incorrect registration. A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up a pipe used for smoking drugs.

Jones is wanted out of Florida for a robbery charge and a parole violation. He now faces charges of Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on those charges, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.

A detainer has since been placed by the Tallahassee Police Department.
