Perfect autumn weather greeted Perry-area youngsters and their elders Saturday at the 10th annual Perry Public Safety Day, staged in the parking lot of the Perry Hy-Vee and Ace Hardware.
Demonstrations of life-saving gear used by police officers, firefighters and ambulance paramedics were staged as Old Glory fluttered freely from the top of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department’s 85-foot ladder truck.
Young visitors were encouraged to scramble into the police patrol cars, sit behind the wheels of the fire trucks and check out the life-saving tech in the ambulances. Perry Police Department Officer Jose Perez was on hand with the department’s newest member, an unnamed K9 whom Perez handles for the city.
Along with the Perry Police Department, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Perry Public Works, Dallas County EMS and Dallas County Secondary Roads Department, an air ambulance arrived about 11 a.m. to the delight of the crowd. The event continues until 1 p.m.
