An Iowa City man who has on probation on a second OWI charge and wanted for a theft was arrested early Wednesday morning.

36-year-old Austin Snakenberg was reportedly in possession of stolen tools valued over $2600 the afternoon of June 22nd. He allegedly admitted possession of the tools in an interview. They consisted of multiple Milwaukee power tools and accessories.

A warrant on that charge was issued September 15th.

The Department of Corrections say he violated his probation by missing a number of scheduled appointments, the most recent one this past Monday.

Just after 3am Wednesday, an officer attempted to stop Snakenberg near the intersection of 7th Avenue and F Street. He was on a skateboard, an ignored officer commands and accelerated away from them.

Once apprehended, Snakenberg allegedly was in possession of a large cutting tool as well as other tools in his backpack, commonly used in burglaries.

Snakenberg was charged with 2nd degree theft, possession of burglar’s tools, and interference with official acts. He was also cited for violating parole. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to over 7 years in prison.
