In the week ending Oct. 3, two gas stations in Tama County sold premium gas at the lowest reported price of $5.19 per gallon, according to customer reports submitted to GasBuddy.
Tama County had two of 17 reported gas stations offering premium gas.
Across Iowa, the average reported price for a gallon of premium gas fell to $5.06, compared to the week before.
The decline followed a volatile spring in energy markets, when analysts linked higher gasoline and diesel prices to rising crude oil prices and concerns about supply disruptions tied to the conflict involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
Crude oil and fuel prices rose during the third quarter of 2026 amid disruptions to Middle Eastern supplies, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. U.S. refineries operated at an average 95% of capacity, yet the average gasoline crack spread, a measure of refining margins, more than doubled from a year earlier as global fuel supplies tightened. U.S. gasoline inventories were 7% below their 2021-25 average in late September, 2026.
Gas price data reflects cash payments. Some stations may charge higher prices for credit card transactions due to processing fees, though such surcharges are prohibited in some states and territories.
