Black students made up 1.1% of Grundy County’s student body in 2024-25 school year

Grundy County schools enrolled 24 Black students in the 2024-25 school year, a 26.3% increase from the previous year, according to the Iowa Department of Education.

The county’s total enrollment was 2,248 students in the 2024-25 school year. Black students made up 1.1% of the student body, ranking fourth among reported ethnicities.

Of the county’s 11 schools, Dike-New Hartford High School, Grundy Center Elementary School and Grundy Center Middle School had the highest Black student enrollments in the 2024-25 school year, with four students total.

Iowa’s certified K-12 enrollment declined slightly in the 2025-26 school year, according to the Iowa Department of Education. Total certified enrollment across public and accredited nonpublic schools fell 0.9% to 515,221 students. Public district and charter school enrollment fell 1.53% to 473,329, while accredited nonpublic school enrollment rose 6.4% to 41,892. 

The department also reported that 41,044 students used Students First Education Savings Accounts at accredited nonpublic schools as of the Oct. 1 certified enrollment date.
