The heat wave continues across Iowa.
A Heat Advisory is in effect through tonight for Delaware, Dubuque, Buchanan, Jones and Linn counties, with peak heat indices could reach 100 to 105 degrees this afternoon. An Extreme Heat Warning is in place for southeast Iowa, including Iowa City and the Quad Cities.
The National Weather Service says it’s important to demonstrate heat safety, especially for outdoor events, including after school activities. Several local school districts have been dismissing early this week due to the heat.
Isolated thunderstorms – some strong to severe – are possible late tonight and Friday morning, as well as Friday afternoon and Friday night.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the low- to mid-80s as we head into Labor Day.
