The Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded the City of Marshalltown up to $2,111,336.82 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funding for housing following the 2020 derecho.
The City plans to use the funding for a project that would build 10 homes for sale. Four homes are planned for the first phase, followed by six in a later phase.
“This award moves us closer to building new homes for Marshalltown families and putting vacant land back to use,” said Deb Millizer, the City’s Housing and Community Development Director. “I’m proud of the work our team and partners put into securing this funding. Now we’re focused on getting these homes built.”
The City is working with the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) on grant administration and Ralston Eco Homes on the proposed development.
The project must receive the required environmental approval before the City moves forward with property acquisition or construction. The City will share locations, home details and a schedule as plans are finalized.
The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
