A robbery charge has been filed against an Iowa City woman after a dispute with a rideshare driver.
Iowa City Police say a Lyft driver was picking up 22-year-old Kiara Perkins of Bluffwood Lane and another passenger at the South Gilbert Street Maverick just after 3:00 Friday morning when the driver refused to drive due to one of the pair bringing an open container of alcohol into the car.
Perkins allegedly spit on the driver during the ensuing argument and walked away. The driver began recording Perkins on her phone, and Perkins allegedly walked back to the driver, threw her drink on her and punched her repeatedly before taking the driver’s phone and fleeing the scene., The driver suffered scratches on her face and a bloody ear. The incident was captured on video.
Perkins was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 5:00 Saturday morning and charged with 2nd Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Theft. She was also charged with Disorderly Conduct relating to a July 5th incident that reportedly saw Perkins and her friends assault a woman near the intersection of Linn Street and Iowa Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. 22-year-old Davis Echolas of Holiday Road was previously charged in that case.
If convicted on all counts against her, Perkins faces a maximum of over 20 years in prison.
