Statewide, regular gas averaged $3.84 per gallon for the week ending Aug. 15, up from the previous week.

U.S. fuel prices eased from their spring highs but remained above year-earlier levels in early July. AAA listed the national average for regular gasoline at $3.823 per gallon on July 3, down from $4.261 a month earlier but above $3.163 a year earlier. Diesel prices showed a similar pattern, falling to $4.811 from $5.411 a month earlier while remaining above the year-earlier average of $3.689.

The decline followed a volatile spring in energy markets, when analysts linked higher gasoline and diesel prices to rising crude oil prices and concerns about supply disruptions tied to the conflict involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said gasoline prices continue to react to both international oil markets and domestic fuel supply conditions. Analysts monitoring the energy market have pointed to refinery utilization rates, U.S. crude oil inventories, OPEC+ production policies and seasonal driving demand as factors influencing fuel costs in 2026, particularly during periods of refinery outages or shipping disruptions affecting global oil supplies.

Gas price data reflects cash payments. Some stations may charge higher prices for credit card transactions due to processing fees, though such surcharges are prohibited in some states and territories.

Data is accurate as of press time, but gas prices have been known to fluctuate on a daily, and even hourly, basis.
