Driver identified in fatal police chase near Eastern Iowa Airport

The driver who died during a police chase near the Eastern Iowa Airport has been identified.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened just after 9:15 Saturday night as the suspect was southbound on Lefebure Road. 34-year-old Robert Oppenheimer of Olin went through a stop sign at Wright Brothers Boulevard south of Fairfax, sending his 2020 Ford F150 into a ditch. He was not wearing a seat belt. Oppenheimer had allegedly been eluding Linn County Sheriff’s deputies at the time of the crash.

No other details have been released.
