Connie Rae Joy, 80, of Iowa City and formerly of Perry passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Legacy Senior Living in Iowa City, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel at 1721 Park St. in Perry. Burial will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.
Connie was born Aug. 12, 1945, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Noble and Clara (Donald) Kiger.
She graduated from Fairfield High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Iowa.
On June 12, 1966, Connie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Joy at the United Methodist Church in Fairfield.
She dedicated many years of service as the school nurse for the Perry Community School District, where she cared for countless students and families.
Connie was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, PEO and the Dallas County Board of Health.
Connie had many talents and passions. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a beautiful singer.
She and Bill loved taking road trips together, especially traveling Iowa’s scenic byways.
She was an active volunteer with the Perry Free Medical Clinic, a cause that remained close to her heart.
Connie was also known as an exceptional cook and baker, always sharing her love through meals and treats made for family and friends.
Above all, she was a devoted grandmother who treasured every moment spent with her grandson and deeply loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noble and Clara Kiger; her beloved husband, Bill Joy; her brother, Keith Glenn; sisters-in-law, Patricia Glenn and Virginia Joy Poffenberger; and brother-in-law, Richard Poffenberger.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, John Joy, Susan Joy and Patricia (David) Sutton; her cherished grandson, Gehrig Sutton; brother-in-law, James Joy; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Diabetes Association or the Perry Area Food Pantry.
