

BOONE, Iowa—A 45 year old Boone man has died as a result of a two vehicle accident on South Story Street in Boone Sunday evening at 9:20. The Iowa State Patrol has released preliminary information today. Joshua Burns of Boone was driving his Jeep Renegade south on South Story Street near Kate Shelley Drive. According to the report, Burns vehicle went off the road into the ditch on the west side of South Story, came back onto the road surface and struck a Ford Edge driven by 27 year old Jessica Slaton of Madrid head-on in the north bound lanes of South Story Street.
Two children from the Slaton vehicle were injured, a 3 year old was flown from the scene with life threatening injuries. a 7 month old child was transported by Boone Fire and Rescue. A third person was reportedly transported for medical treatment, possibly Slaton. The Patrol has not identified the children, their destination or their condition.
Boone Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Boone Fire Department Fire and Rescue, Lifeflight, Mary Greely Ambulance and Elmquist Towing assisted at the scene. Boone Police request the Iowa State Patrol to handle the investigation due to the fatality.
