An Iowa City man faces possible jail time after a traffic stop found him carrying an ineligible weapon.
Police stopped 55-year-old Trent Colcord of Deforest Avenue on Arthur Street Sunday evening after it was discovered the license plate registration on his 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle expired in 2023. Upon contact, a large knife was reportedly sticking out the back of the bike. Colcord reportedly gave consent for officers to check the length of the knife, which was determined to be longer than five inches.
A criminal history was run on Colcord, and a felony conviction was found, making him ineligible to carry the weapon. A subsequent search of the bike was conducted, and two glass pipes used to smoke narcotics were allegedly found. His driving status was listed as suspended for non payment of Iowa fines.
Colcord was charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and cited for driving while suspended. If convicted on the criminal counts, he could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
