One of Iowa’s top new players on the roster is Tavion Banks. On Sunday, he was arrested for getting into an alleged bar fight in Iowa City.

During Wednesday’s media availability, head coach Ben McCollum was asked whether or not Banks would face any further punishment from the team.

“In regards to whether or not there will be a suspension, haven’t necessarily made a decision in regards to that until I completely get the information,” McCollum said. “With discipline issues, kind of for future reference, the way we’ve always done it is, the way I’ve always done it is, I’ve always tried to take each case a little bit differently than the last because there’s so many circumstances surrounding each thing. Obviously he’s disappointed, and we are, too. The good part is he’s going to learn from this and he’s going to grow from it, and that’s my job as a coach is to teach kids how to grow and be better in those specific situations.”

The Hawkeyes open the season against Robert Morris on Nov. 4.
