A Lisbon man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly getting into a running vehicle in downtown Iowa City and causing an accident.
Police say 19-year-old Blake Stejskal of Novak Road got into a black Chevy Impala, unoccupied and running, near the intersection of Washington and Clinton Street. He reportedly put the car in neutral or reverse and jumped out while it was moving.
The Chevy crashed into a pedestrian control device, damaging the vehicle and the device. Total damage was estimated at $2000.
Stejskal was allegedly intoxicated, and was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol. He reportedly admitted to drinking and showed impairment on field tests. A Datamaster test showed his breath-alcohol level at .167 percent.
Stejskal was charged with Operating a Vehicle without Owner Consent, 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, and OWI first offense. He could be sentenced to eight years in prison if convicted on all counts.
