SIOUX CITY, IOWA (Iowa Media Wire) – The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association revealed its All-State team selection on Monday night, highlighted by MOC-Floyd Valley’s Jesse Van Kalsbeek winning 2024 Mr. Iowa Basketball, an award given to the State’s top player by the IPSWA.
Despite missing six games with a broken hand this season, the senior guard averaged 26 points per game, 10.8 rebounds per game, along with a Class 3A-best 10.2 field goals made per game. A pivotal piece in the Dutchmen’s State semifinal run, the Northwestern College signee scored over 30 points in both games at Wells Fargo Arena, flexing a 37-point, 15 rebound double-double in the quarterfinals.
Van Kalsbeek joins esteemed company of Mr. Iowa Basketball winners including Harrison Barnes, Fred Hoiberg and Tamin Lipsey. He is first Dutchman to win the award since Josh Van Es in 2005.
