Records show the nursing facility offered 60 available beds, exceeding the Hardin County first quarter average by five. During this period, Hubbard Care Center served an average of 43.1 residents each day.
The CMS assigned Hubbard Care Center an overall rating of 5 out of 5, surpassing the 3.1 average for Iowa’s nursing homes.
Scenic Manor was the largest nursing home in Hardin County that quarter, offering 77 beds. Eldora Specialty Care was ranked third highest, providing 46 beds.
By the end of Q1 in 2026, Hubbard Care Center accrued $46,101 in total fines across four infractions and received four penalties.
There were three non-profit nursing home providers in Hardin County, Iowa, during this period.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the growth of the nation’s older population while numbers for those under age 18 decline. The count of Americans age 65 and older climbed 13% from 2020 to 2024, compared to a 1.7% decrease for those under 18. The older demographic in the U.S. has increased notably since 1920, rising from 4.9 million to over 61 million by 2024.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
