New Regulations in Manchester for Bikes & Micromobility Devices

The Manchester City Council recently approved updated regulations for bicycles, e-bikes, electric scooters, skateboards, hoverboards, and other micromobility devices.

The ordinance establishes updated rules for safely operating these devices on City streets, sidewalks, bikeways, and other public property, including:

  • Rules for roadway and sidewalk use
  • Speed and nighttime operation requirements
  • Lighting and equipment requirements
  • Restricted areas and safe riding practices
  • Parking requirements
  • Penalties for violations

Manchester City Manager Brock Waters says there was a lot of public input from the community on wanting some kind of change.

Waters says Manchester Police Chief Ben Davis will be working with the schools to educate students about the change.

The ordinance will become effective next Wednesday, October 7th. The City is asking everyone to take a few minutes to review the updated rules – which can be found on the City’s website – and help keep Manchester safe for riders, pedestrians, and motorists.
