A Des Moines man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulting a Waukee man as he slept.
Levi Jordan Smith, 35, of 7902 S.W. 10th Pl., Des Moines, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
The incident began about 2:45 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the 4100 block of Glenview Street, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance.
According to court records, Smith allegedly entered a “private bedroom where” the victim “was asleep and began punching him.”
Officers observed on the victim “a laceration near his left eyebrow and a bloody nose” and also “observed blood on the bed’s comforter, indicating” the victim “was in bed during the assault,” according to court records.
Smith was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 6 in Dallas County District Court.
Vo was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in 2024 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of disorderly conduct in 2021 in Polk County District Court.
