An Iowa City man is accused of keeping a woman trapped in a bedroom against her will until she paid him.

According to arrest records, 31-year-old Ashton Allen had been arguing with the woman at his Oakcrest Street apartments late Friday night, accusing her of owing him money. When she refused to pay him, Allen allegedly shut the door to his bedroom with the woman inside and refused to let her out until he was paid. The woman said the door was the only way out, and that she was intimidated by Allen’s size.

At one point, Allen allegedly grabbed an object, hid it under his shirt, and pointed it at her as if it were a gun.

Allen is charged with False Imprisonment. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
