Suspect in Muscatine Police shooting captured

The suspect accused of shooting a Muscatine Police officer is now in custody.

A news release from the Muscatine Police Department indicates they took 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson into custody without incident just after 7:30 Monday night. Jackson was located at 1116 Oak Street in Muscatine.

]Jackson is accused of leading a Muscatine County Sheriff’s deputy on a chase Friday night before crashing his car and fleeing on foot. He was located by law enforcement running in the 1200 block of Grandview Avenue. During the subsequent foot pursuit, Jackson allegedly fired at pursuing officers, striking a Muscatine Police officer. The officer was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Charges are pending.
