The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, August 3 to address a full agenda of matters including the consideration of a Resolution to establish a 55-mph speed limit on Secondary Road Pavements, the discussion of bids for the County’s Solid Waste contract, and the discussion of CivicPlus agenda management software. The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Clark with Supervisors Dennis Keatley and Dan Byrnes present.
During Public Comment, Supervisors Chairperson Clark made note of resources available through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) relating to disaster recovery during a brief update relating to the recent fire at the Agri Star Meat & Poultry processing plant in Postville. Clark discussed a home mortgage payment assistance program that may be available for those impacted by a 10-percent or more decrease in income over an extended period of time, in addition to resources potentially available to assist the city’s water utility and area emergency services with replacement equipment needs following any damage during the extinguishing of the blaze that began early Tuesday, July 28 at the meat processing plant. Clark noted that contacts with the USDA have been in communication with the City of Postville and community organizations.
Following the time allotted for Public Comment, the meeting moved into the discussion and consideration of the CivicPlus agenda management software. County Auditor Denise Beyer and the Supervisors discussed the possible purchase of this software and services provided by CivicPlus, which may benefit multiple departments and commissions in disseminating agendas and information to meeting participants in addition to automating and streamlining the process of producing meeting minutes and expediting webpage updates. No action was taken following discussion with it being noted that further discussion relating to this service provider and budgeting is anticipated to take place next week.
