The College Community School District is investigating a social media post that involved students.
KCRG TV reports the photo, circulating on social media, shows a group of Prairie High School students appearing to burn a black baby doll over a fire.
A statement from the District said in part, “While this incident occurred outside of a school at a private function and not under the supervision of school staff, we are actively taking steps to hold the individuals involved accountable while surrounding impacted students with care. We also recognize that decisions in high school do not define a young person’s character forever. We will work with learners to take ownership of their actions while helping them learn, repair harm, and choose a better path forward.“
Anthony Arrington is a local social justice advocate; he is calling for accountability as well as for the College Community School District to educate students on the truths of racism.
