An Iowa City man has been charged with OWI after an overnight accident earlier this month.
Police say just before 2am May 2nd, 51-year-old Edgar Martinez Ruis of Essex Street reportedly hit a parked vehicle on Wayne Avenue that caused his truck to roll. Upon arrival, police allegedly observed signs of intoxication, and he was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Officers got a blood draw from Martinez-Ruis, and results showed his blood-alcohol level at .271 percent.
A check of his driving record showed a previous OWI from California in 2018. Martinez-Ruis was charged with OWI second offense and could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
