LE MARS, Iowa (Iowa Media Wire) — With county fair season in full swing, one Plymouth County food stand continues to serve up a unique staple.
The Plymouth County Pork Producers are celebrating their 25th year of serving their famous Pork Chop in a Glove.
The cuts of meat are processed just a few miles away from the fairground in Remsen, injected with a special seasoning, and grilled until they reach 145 degrees.
While the pork chop tends to be the main reason fair-goers buy the item, officials said there is another great aspect of the pork chop in a glove.
“We’ve got people that go home and then they work with them. My husband’s one of them, that, he really likes the gloves. We always tell people to buy up two chops because then you have a pair,” said one of the directors of the Plymouth County Pork Producers, Sterling Meyer.
Meyer said the pork producers go through about 7,500 pork chops a year, and about 10,000 gloves.
The pork producers’ food stand is open all five days of the Plymouth County Fair, starting at 5 p.m., serving an assortment of meals like pork tenderloins, nachos, and, of course, the Pork Chop in a Glove.
