A University of Iowa business student was arrested early Friday after allegedly running off with a street sign in downtown Iowa City.
The 20-year-old man, from the Chicago suburb of Elk Grove Village, was observed running with the sign at around 2am near the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Dubuque Street. Upon contact with police, he reportedly threw the sign.
The student had the odor of ingested alcohol, had bloodshot watery eyes, and slurred speech. He was wearing bar wrist bands, and a search incident to arrest allegedly found a fictitious ID making him to appear of legal drinking age. The student refused a post arrest breath test.
He was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Traffic Control Device, Public Intoxication, and Possession of Fictitious ID. If convicted on all counts, the student could be sentenced to up to 13 months in prison.
