One dead in van/train crash in LeClaire

One person is dead after a crash between a vehicle and a railroad car in LeClaire this morning.

A news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office says the Scott Emergency Communications Center received a call about a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle and a railroad car in the 2300 block of S. Cody Road in LeClaire on Tuesday, May 6 at about 8:57 a.m. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene.

The initial investigation showed that a 2021 Dodge Ram Promaster Van was driving south on Canal Shore Drive SW. A train hauling an unknown number of railcars was traveling west at the same time and the van collided with the locomotive. There was one person in the van at the time of the accident, an 84-year-old man from Davenport who was pronounced deceased on scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team. Scott County Medic EMS, LeClaire Police Department, LeClaire Fire Department, Scott County GIS and the Scott County Emergency Communication Center provided assistance at the scene of the accident.
