Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs rolled out a new student loan program late last month. It enables students to get loans without a co-signer, and they don’t need a credit score.

Interest rates run from about eight percent to nine and a half percent. It’s available at public universities and private institutions that are not for profit. For example, this could be an option for students at Augustana College.

Treasurer Michael Frerichs is making the rounds in Illinois to promote the no co-signer student loans.

“This is an investment. We are investing this money,” Frerichs said.
