Before leaving for summer break, students must first gear up for finals week. Iowa State offers several different ways to assist students in their preparation, whether through tutoring services or study rooms across campus.
The Parks Library hosts study rooms for students looking to find a comfortable environment to study in, while having access to all the necessary resources. These rooms can be for individuals or groups of up to six students. Parks Library also has silent study pods.
The TechCyte Service Center is also available in the ISU Bookstore, alongside tax-free prices for all tech items. The Book Store is also a resource for stationery, including notebooks, pens and study materials.
The Hixson-Lied Student Success Center also offers several rooms to reserve for individual or group study sessions, and the proximity to Seasons dining hall and east side market allows for the ability to grab a quick snack during long sessions.
That is not all Hixson-Lied has to offer. Students have access to drop-in tutoring for select math and chemistry courses. Drop-in tutoring is also available in the library, and timings can be seen on the website.
Select courses also organize Supplemental Instruction sessions, led by students who have already excelled in those classes. The schedule for Supplemental Instruction can be viewed here.
Guidelines regarding prep week can be found here. Some key notes are that no new assignment due dates can be assigned, other than those mentioned in the syllabus, and no quizzes or exams may be conducted on the final two days of prep week.
There are no exam appointments for finals week; all testing locations, except Carver 0250, offer a walk-in service for exams. The process for walk-in exams, as well as the schedule, can be found on the testing center website.
New testing center protocols, including lockers and added privacy, at 0060 Carver and 2243 Hixson-Lied Student Success Center have been implemented. According to previous reporting from the Daily, the lockers have three sizes, the small ones being appropriate for items like phones, wallets and keys, whereas the medium-sized lockers could fit a backpack and the large size can fit a coat and an oversized backpack.
Some courses hold organized group exams, and have specific separate information. Information for these exams can be found on the registrar’s exam information website.
Students should also review resources and information given by instructors, announcements or on the syllabus.
