An area transient was taken into custody after allegedly failing to comply with Sex Registry requirements.
41-year-old Namir Marrero, whose driver’s license listed an address in Milwaukee Wisconsin when arrested in February , was convicted of indecent exposure in March. Just before 7:30 February 10th, University Heights Police were informed that a man had just walked up to a woman walking near Kinnick stadium, mumbled something to her, then reached into his pants and pulled out his penis to show it to her. The woman fled and called the police.
Police found Marrero later that night outside Slater Hall. He allegedly admitted to urinating in the area, but claimed he did not expose himself to anyone. He then reportedly questioned if the officer was a real police officer, and was insistent that somebody other than the alleged victim had called the police.
As part of his conviction, Marrero was required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. He initially reported his primary residence as Homeless, and was told to report to the Sheriff’s Office weekly to report the location he had slept that week. On April 15th it was reported Marrero had failed to report his whereabouts and that his current whereabouts were unknown.
Marerro remained at large until his incarceration at the Johnson County Jail Thursday afternoon. He’s charged with Sex Offender violation 1st offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
