Orient-Macksburg’s Christa Cass, Emma Boswell and Kinsey Eslinger each hit triples in a 7-6 softball win over Bedford Monday, June 20. The Bulldogs picked up another win two nights later, beating Nodaway Valley, 3-1.
In the win over Bedford, Cass was 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and three runs scored. Kasyn Shinn had single and a run scored. Boswell was 3-for-4 with two singles, a triple and three RBI. Eslinger had two hits, including her triple, an RBI and one run scored. Emily Campbell was 1-for-4, had one run scored and also reached on an error. Carter Osborne also singled. Logann Carson reached three times on errors. Bridget Bracy drew a walk and scored a run.
The Bulldogs were successful on four of five stolen base attempts. They committed four errors in the field.
O-M regained a lead at 3-2 following the first inning and a half. Bedford tied the game at 3-3 before O-M went in front 5-3. Bedford tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth before the visitors got the go-ahead run in their half of the sixth.
Cass was the pitcher of record, getting the win with three innings of work, walking two, surrendering three unearned runs on no hits and five Ks. Eslinger came in for four innings, giving up three more runs, only one of them earned, and walked four while fanning one.
The Bulldogs scored first at Nodaway Valley, getting a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. Each team scored once in the sixth.
O-M had two doubles and two RBI come from Boswell, who struck out 11 batters in the circle in pitching the win. She gave up three hits, one earned run and walked two. The Bulldogs played cleanly behind her.
Shinn, Cass, Eslinger, Janesa Tonnberg and Carson had one hit apiece. Tonnberg had one run batted in. Shinn, Cass and Tonnberg scored the runs.
