Derek Wulf, the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, is facing allegations of fraud as his farm has been placed in receivership.
The Des Moines Register says a judge appointed a management company to take control of Wulf’s property last week after a lender sought the move.
Wulf or his company have been accused of fraud and theft in two lawsuits, and the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office has an active investigation involving Wulf. Six other plaintiffs have filed suit since 2023.
Nine farmers, truckers and former employees who spoke to the Register over the summer described a businessman who ignored messages for months, and made false accusations to justify his actions when pushed into court.
Wulf was picked as Zach Lahn’s running mate for the governorship. A spokesman for the campaign said Lahn was unaware of the criminal investigation and suits against Wulf, and denied accusations that Wulf committed fraud or theft.
Iowa Democratic Spokesperson Terra Hernandez said in a statement, “Iowans deserve honest answers about Derek Wulf’s lawsuits, millions of dollars in debt, and ongoing criminal investigation, but Lahn only has excuses and lies.”
A spokesperson for the Lahn campaign accused the Register of stitching together a “collection of resolved disputes, paid debts and contested allegations….into a sensational narrative of financial collapse that simply is not supported by the facts.”
