Poweshiek County schools enroll 2,439 students in 2024-25

Poweshiek County schools enrolled 2,439 students in the 2024-25 school year, 0.2% fewer than the previous year, according to the Iowa Department of Education.

Of those students, 52.8% identified as male and 47.2% as female.

Data show that white students made up 88.4% of the student body, the largest share in Poweshiek County schools, followed by Hispanic students at 5.5%, multiracial students at 3.3%, Black students at 2.1%, Asian students at 0.5% and Native American students at 0.2%.

Among the county’s 10 schools, Grinnell Community Senior High School had the highest enrollment in the 2024-25 school year, with 512 students.

Iowa’s certified K-12 enrollment declined slightly in the 2025-26 school year, according to the Iowa Department of Education. Total certified enrollment across public and accredited nonpublic schools fell 0.9% to 515,221 students. Public district and charter school enrollment declined 1.53% to 473,329 students, while accredited nonpublic school enrollment rose 6.4% to 41,892. 

The department also reported that 41,044 students used Students First Education Savings Accounts at accredited nonpublic schools as of the Oct. 1 certified enrollment date.
