The Taylor County Extension Service is recognizing four seniors who have been involved in 4-H for many years.
Eli Johnson, Laramie Stoaks and Wyatt Leonard have been in the 4-H program for nine years and Piper Brokaw has been in for seven years. Their 4-H journey began in the fourth grade when they joined and became members of area clubs; Calvary Go-Getters (Lenox), Platte Peppy Pals (Lenox) and Washinton Winners (Bedford).
It was in these clubs that they all could agree they learned valuable life skills about responsibility, organization, work ethics, communication, teamwork skills and time management.
Leonard said it perfectly: “While being a 4-H member, I hope I was able to show others an area of my life that I am passionate about and hoped to have helped others along the way.”
All four seniors have had livestock projects varying from sheep to cattle to swine. Much of the hard work happened during the busy summer months as they prepared for the Taylor County Fair and Iowa State Fair.
“These seniors have bright futures ahead of them as they’ve grown in their communities, being valuable leaders to their respective clubs and county,” said Kristen Smith, Program Director for Taylor County Extension and Outreach. “Their passion for their communities, 4-H and agriculture is something they should be very proud of as they close this chapter.”
