Police made four marijuana-related arrests involving three different incidents in the same Iowa City parking ramp overnight.
University of Iowa Police were patrolling the Capitol Street ramp at 12:15 Sunday morning when they say they encountered 25-year-old De Andrew Berry of A Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids and several other people smoking marijuana inside Berry’s vehicle. A search of Berry’s person reportedly turned up several blue pills that were consistent with Xanax. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense. If convicted, Berry faces up to seven years in prison.
A half-hour after Berry’s arrest, Iowa City Police were patrolling the ramp and discovered 37-year-old Stanley Houston of Rock Island with a vehicle they say smelled of marijuana. A package of marijuana was allegedly in plain view inside the vehicle, and a marijuana blunt was located on the roof of the car. Houston is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 2nd Offense. That carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail, upon conviction.
UI Police say just after 2:15 Sunday morning they saw 28-year-old Christian Mbokolo of North Linn Street get out of a truck parked outside the ramp on Burlington Street and head to the ramp’s top floor. When confronted on top of the ramp, Mbokolo and 24-year-old Christine Longi of 5th Street in Coralville reportedly threw a baggie of marijuana over the side. Mbokolo allegedly admitted to purchasing the marijuana from someone inside the truck.
Both Mbokolo and Longi are charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 1st Offense and each face a maximum penalty of one year in jail, if convicted.
