One person was airlifted after a rock rescue in Buchanan County on Monday afternoon.
The Independence Fire Department says emergency personnel were dispatched to the 3000 block of Overland Avenue in the Rowley area around 3 pm following reports of a female trapped by a large falling rock.
Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered that a massive stone had shifted and spun, pinning the victim’s legs beneath it. Using specialized rescue equipment, personnel safely extricated the female from under the boulder.
Due to the nature of her injuries, the patient was transferred to the care of Air Care Helicopter and transported to a regional trauma center for a higher level of medical care.
In addition to the Independence Fire Department, the Rowley and Quasqueton Fire Departments, AMR Ambulance, Air Care Helicopter and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office & Dispatch also responded to the scene.
No further details regarding the victim’s condition or the cause of the accident are available at this time.
