I came to Iowa in 2009 as a legal immigrant, bringing with me skills, ambition, and a deep desire to build a life in this country. What I found here was more than opportunity: found acceptance, stability, and a place my family could truly call home. My children grew up here. Today, as adults, they continue to live and build their lives in Iowa. That says everything about what this state means to us.

Iowa is not just where we live. It is where we became part of something larger.

That is why I pay close attention to the future of this state and why the current governor’s race matters deeply to me.

Recently, I have been following the campaign of Zach Lahn. What struck me first was not politics, but tone. His message centers on what he calls an “Iowa First” vision—focused on strengthening families, supporting local communities, and investing in the long-term future of the state.

As a father, farmer, and businessman with deep roots in Iowa, he presents himself as someone grounded in the same values many of us came here seeking hard work, community, and accountability.

His campaign highlights issues that resonate with many Iowans:

  • Supporting family farms and rural communities
  • Addressing long-term health concerns and environmental issues
  • Improving education and keeping young people in the state
  • Reducing the influence of special interests in politics

What stands out to me most is his emphasis on being independent—self-funded and not reliant on large donors or corporate influence.

As someone who came to this country believing in fairness and opportunity, that message matters.

Like many Iowans, I am not looking for perfection in a candidate. I am looking for authenticity, courage to address difficult issues, and a genuine commitment to the people of this state, not just to politics as usual.

Iowa gave me and my family a chance. It gave us a home. As we look ahead to the next chapter of leadership, I hope we continue to prioritize those same values: community, integrity, and a future that keeps families here for generations to come.

Zach Lahn blazes the trail as the one and only candidate with an “Iowa First” agenda. Why would anyone want to even consider anyone other is totally beyond me!

Sincerely,
