Jeanne Lee (Garner) Newbury, 84, born in Prescott, Iowa June 6, 1941, to the late Joseph Ray and Goldie(Ewart) Garner passed away in her sleep October 31, 2025 at her home in Edwardsville, IL of complications from a stroke in August.
Jeanne grew up west of Bedford, Iowa on the Garner Farm with her younger brothers Eddie and Gerald. Shegraduated from New Market High School in 1959 and soon married Robert “Bob” Newbury of Hopkins, MO. After Bob’s service to our country, Jeanne and Bob settled in O’Fallon, MO.
Jeanne’s only child Lisa Lynn, born in 1971 with special needs was her world, even more so after Bob’s passing in 1987. She and Lisa then moved toEdwardsville, IL to be closer to family. She volunteeredfor the Special Olympics over 45 years as a coach, organizer, cheerleader, second mom, a friend to many and the wearer of a lot of hats. Her life centered on and around Lisa Lynn and when she passed in 2019Jeanne’s spirit and part of her heart went with her.
Jeanne is survived by her nieces and caregivers, Debbieand Dede of Illinois; brother Gerald Garner and his family of Iowa; sister-in-law Blenda Newbury of Illinois; the Newbury families of MO, a host of Garner and Newbury nieces and nephews including many great and great-great. Also, lots of dear friends and extended families.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Goldie Garner, husband Bob and daughter Lisa Lynn;two brothers and a sister-in-law, Marvin (Sue) Garner and Eddie Garner; sister, Marge (Marion) Brown; abrother-in-law, Jim Newbury; three nephews, Dr. Phillip Dennis, Sr., Don Schmid and Shawn Newbury; other loved family members and friends.
A memorial service was held at Emmanuel UCC in Hamel, IL. Jeanne and Lisa were inurned and laid to rest next to Bob at the church cemetery.
