State Democratic leaders are pitching a return to first in the nation status to party leaders today.

The Gazette reports Iowa is one of 12 states under consideration by the Democratic National Committee to be among the first states to cast votes and presidential preferences in the next general election.

Iowa wants their caucus to include a mail-in option and simple results reported on caucus night.

They’re trying to convince party leaders that Democrats need to prove they value the input of Midwestern and rural Americans to make headway in Iowa without a huge financial warchest.

A delegation headed by former party chairman Ross WIlburn and Scott Brennan, a Democratic National Committee member who was removed from the national rules and bylaws committee last year will be making their presentation in Washington DC. The Committee will make a decision at a later date.
